Reuniting the Cardenas Family

Lucia Cardenas has been in the United States legally for over twenty years. Her brother Alejandro has been waiting in Mexico City for three of them, watching his nieces and nephews grow up over a phone screen.

Family-based immigration is one of the slowest moving currents in the legal system. Sibling petitions can take more than a decade. But there are still moments — interviews, document requests, status changes — where the right legal counsel makes the difference between forward motion and another year on the queue.

With Deport Defense’s support, Alejandro’s I-130 petition was filed correctly the first time, his interview is scheduled for next quarter, and the Cardenas family has a date circled on the calendar for the first time in three years.

Three birthdays. Two graduations. One first communion. We have missed all of them. We will not miss the next one.
